Provo River Falls is a fantastic little pit-stop to take along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. You can do a quick stop to just see the main, upper falls, or do a short little walk to see the middle and lower falls. Or, you can even follow the creek up a ways, which is what we did last time we stopped here. Today we just explored the 3 main falls.
Quick Details:
Length: Depends on what you do, but the main trail is probably only a quarter mile or so.
Trail Type: Out and Back or Loop
Difficulty: DR3 a little rocky but it's short.
Elevation Gain: Not sure, but not a lot.
Restroom: Yes
Dogs? Yes, leashed.
Other Info: Fee Area $6.00 for a 3 day pass. Self serve stations along the HW (one just above here). Have exact change or a check.
To Get Here:
From Kamas head up mirror lake highway. I didn't grab the mileage but it is on the left (north) and signed. If you hit the turn off for Crystal Lake you went too far.
The Trail:
The upper falls from the parking lot.
From the viewpoint. It’s flowing super high right now!
Again.
Looking downstream.
Walking down towards the middle falls passing these cataracts.
I totally forgot there was a third tier to the upper falls! You can’t see it unless you walk down a ways.
The middle falls.
From a little lower down.
The top of the lower falls.
Looking down stream.
The lower falls.
Unfortunately, the trail below the lower falls appears to be closed. I really wanted to see it, but I imagine it was closed for a good reason and didn’t risk it today. We have seen it, though it has been a few years.
Back to the middle falls.
It’s crazy we just spent a good while walking around a lake with no bugs bothering us, but here, the mosquito's were absolutely bonkers! Bring bug spray!
Oh, there is an actual paved trail haha. We have just been scrambling down the rocks.
Pretty forest.
As always, this is a great pit stop along the Mirror Lake Highway. It is probably one of the more crowded areas, but for good reason. It is quite scenic and worth the stop. 10 out of 10 squirrels.
As for difficulty, it has a paved path, but it can be a little steep. DR3.
Dogs are allowed, but must remain leashed.
