Pretty Spring Weekend April 2012

 

 

Just a pretty day fishing on Lake Bountiful.

 

And then the sun started to set.

I was done with fishing at this point but I started suspecting I might be in for a show with the sunset so I stuck around.

       

And then we had a lovely crescent moon. I have always loved when you can see the whole moon, and the crescent is lit, like a semi eclipse. I know it happens every 28 days, but it is still cool.

Crazy spring snowstorm. The snow clung to the tree’s, and even though I prefer to not have man made objects in my photos, this one came out beautifully.

Ice Chandelier

The day after a cold snap I was in Ogden and decided to walk down to the Ogden River and caught this masterpiece from mother nature. It is absolutely stunning! The branch was close enough to the rapids to start accumulating ice and it created something close to a chandelier. Just astounding! (2nd image is a digital zoom of the first)

After much deliberation, I have decided to change my week designation from Sun – Sat to Mon – Sun. This is due to the fact that most of my better images seem to land on the weekend, more often than not Sunday. I noticed that I tended to sit on an image for a week and forget about it, which resulted in less posting. So, with new vigor here we go:

I submitted a few photo’s into the state fair this year, and I got a ribbon. This was a good day.

Landis pointed out that this technically makes me an award winning photographer. Which, yes is technically correct, but I think I will save that honor for the day I place.

Original Image taken 5/25/2009. This is, if I remember right, Canary Springs in the Mammoth Hot Springs area within Yellowstone National Park. Constantly changing, always absolutely beautiful! If you ever go to Yellowstone, make sure you plan some time in this area.

My friend had some fire dancers at her birthday bash and I snapped quite a few amazing shots. This particular one is just stunning. I will probably be posting an entire post with these but I have so much more to get posted right now.

Partial Lunar Eclipse:

We had a partial lunar eclipse in Salt Lake over the weekend. I honestly didn’t think that a) I would even be up that late, b) I would be able to see it from my neighborhood and c) I would even be able to capture it properly. Luckily, I was proven wrong on all 3 counts. Seeing as I have never seen a lunar eclipse, I will take that partial thank you very much.

This was near the beginning, after I FINALY got my camera calibrated to take a picture of the moon properly. (you should see some of the pictures before this one, yikes!) Sorry the watermark is poorly placed. This is towards the end of the event. After this the sun starts coming up, and the moon started setting behind some tree’s. I thought about staying up to watch it recede all the way, but it was way too late.   Here is a close-up of the first image. I STILL cannot believe I captured this.

As we watched the amazing event we talked about how it is no wonder the earliest civilizations were both awed and terrified of these events I mean, if you had no idea what a lunar eclipse was, and you started the night with a full moon, only to watch it slowly disappear what would you do?

All in all I am glad I stayed up to enjoy it.

This Segment I randomly decided to do is just my favorite random snap each week. I would like to note that this segment may not necessary cover any of my best work, but more something I felt was amazing. More than likely something within a mile of my home.

I am actually kind of proud of this as I snapped it while I went to get the mail, and did not have my tripod with me.

I had this dilemma this week week where I accidentally posted a photo before I had saved my modifications, which resulted in a debate. Which is better. a shot I took and made no modifications to, or a shot I took and made some modifications to. (which I actually do rarely believe it or not.) So, now I would like your oppinion.
