Bountiful Lake is small lake on the western edge of Bountiful. It’s a great spot for fishing and since it has been a while since we have been I thought it might be a fun, quick getaway for the day. This is less of a hike, and more of a nice walk around a lake.
Quick Details:
Length: About 1.3 miles.
Difficulty: DR2 Paved, flat.
Elevation Gain: None
Restroom: At parking lot
Dogs? Yes. Please clean up after your furry friend.
To get here, take 500 S in Bountiful and head west. Go over Legacy Parkway, and the road will curve to the north. After a mile or 2 you will see the lake to the left. A lot of people park on the street, but there is a parking lot.
I expected the lake to be frozen, but I was surprised to see so many people ice fishing on it.
Before long you start getting the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains behind the lake.
A little stream that feeds the lake.
One of the 2 islands with a nesting pole.
Panoramic.
You can’t really tell if this is a lake, or a field at this point.
The trail gets a little more woodsey on the back end. Also, you can see a tree that fell from the first major snowstorm we got this year. We got like a foot of heavy wet snow, my neiborhood lost a lot of branches as well.
I am pretty sure this is a bat house.
Lake and mountains.
Another panoramic view.
The trail.
The lake again.
Another panoramic.
The swamplands beyond and Antelope Island.
Sketchy bridge over the outlet, which is the Jordan River.
Another view.
Tracks across the ice.
Plants and mountains.
Lake and skies.
I ventured a little ways out on the ice.
The canyons above. Lets see, I think this is Parrish and Centerville Canyons.
I found all the ducks and geese in the inlet.
Closer. Some of the geese have weird… updos. Is this a moulting thing?
The Jordan River entering the lake.
Well that was a fun little adventure. Not a whole lot to it, but it is nice to get away from the city and get a little excercise as well. Ending on 8 out of 10 Squirrels.
As for difficulty, it is practically flat and paved. Going with a DR2.
Dogs are allowed! Please clean up after your furry friend.
