There is a nice little community park in Centerville called Freedom Hills. There is a .4 mile paved loop around the park and a trail that switchbacks up the mountain to the Firebreak Rd./Bonneville Shoreline Trail. There wasn’t a whole lot to it, but it had a nice view and I had been meaning to check it out for a while now.
Quick Details:
Length: .53 one way, with the option to add more. I ended up doing about 2.3 total.
Difficulty: DR3 Not too bad, although might not be good in the summer.
Elevation Gain: About 300 ft.
Restroom: At trailhead

To get here head to Centerville. From the south take Parrish Ln. Exit 319. Take Main St and head north to 150 east. Turn east go uphill. Take a left at Park Hill Dr. You will see the park on the right. The trailhead is on the NE corner of the park.
Nice little memorial.
On to the trail. It is very wide and flat, almost like paved.
Memorial bench, with a great view.
Park below.
The switchbacks above. These are seriously the widest, and easiest switchbacks I have ever done.
Some tighter switchbacks.
Quick panoramic of Antelope Island.
17 switchbacks later I have reached the last leg.
Snake Area? Why isn’t there a sign at the bottom warning of that? Oh well, even though it is a beautiful day, I don’t think it’s quite warm enough for them to come out just yet.
I decided to continue south on the Firebreak Rd/Bonneville Shoreline Trail towards Lone Pine Creek.
This is a creek? There isn’t much to it.
Mushrooms.
I decided to head north on the Bonneville Trail and see what I could find.
Another panoramic.
You can see the Great Salt Lake Nature Center down below.
Another panoramic.
Puddles and snow.
You can see Lagoon from up here.
Random cairn with neat striped rock.
Almost made it to Davis Creek before deciding to turn back.
Lone tree on a ridge.
And we’re back to the switchback trail.
I think I found a deer trail. Considering the amount of deer poop I saw on the switchbacks, I would say this is probably a great spot to see em.
More switchbacks.
Back to the memorial bench. So young.
Great view from it though. Probably a fantastic spot to watch a sunset. I should have hung out a little longer.
There seems to be a hilly wetland through here.
Looks like the park has a good frolf course.
Back to the memorial.
Names in the bricks.
Well that hike was a little on the meh side. But I have been wanting to check it out, and because I couldn’t find much info on it before, I have decided to post it even though it to help other people decide if they want to do it. It does offer some great views though so it is not useless. Plus it offers easy access to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Eh, 6 out of 10 Squirrels.
As for difficulty, Even though it gets you up the mountain fairly quickly.it is wide and like paved. I wouldn’t be too worried about rambunctious little ones either. DR3.
