The Liberty Park Artesian Well AKA Natural Spring Fountain is an artesian well on the southeast corner of Liberty Park.
An artesian well is a well that has been drilled into an aquafer that has natural pressure that forces the water up of it’s own accord without the need for a pump. This is the 3rd publicly accessible one I have found in the state, and the 2nd in Salt Lake City. As I understand it, there is another one in the park that is currently under disrepair. Next time I am here I will try to hunt that one down too.
Quick Details:
Length: Depends on where you park but it is about 80 feet from the closest parking spot.
Trail Type: Get out and see.
Difficulty: Get out and see DR1.
Elevation Gain: NA
Restroom: There are 3 restrooms in the park.
Dogs? Yes, leashed.
Other Info:
To Get Here:
As mentioned, it is on the southeast corner of the park.
The Trail:
Approaching the main fountain.
There is even a fountain specifically for dogs.
The drinking fountain. Upon first view it looks like a standard drinking fountain. But as you will discover, there is no mechanism to turn it on and off.
It is called Natural Springs Fountain. But, I am pretty sure it is an artesian well. According to this sign, if it is ever interrupted, it will be lost.
From the side.
The front with a little step for kids.
I don’t know why I am so fascinated by these.
Both fountains have a nice strong flow. The water tastes good, and is nice and cold.
The special little doggy fountain again.
The drinking fountain.
All 3 of the artesian wells I have found are unique. Aside from this one, there is one nearby at Artesian Well Park, and there is The Stump in Ogden. There are also some that are not publicly viewable at Artesian Springs Apartments in Murray, but there is a neat tower there.
I think these are super neat! So 8 out of 10 squirrels today. It was a little busy, but not too bad though.
As for difficulty, it really is just a get out and see, or see along the way. DR1.
Dogs are allowed in city parks, Leashed. Please clean up after your furry friends.
