Bingham Creek is a small creek that originates in Bingham Canyon on the west side of the valley. There is not a full trail along it, but there are a few sections that can be explored. This super, super short section in West Jordan is alright. I have been working on exploring our creeks as much as possible lately and I noticed this small section and I thought what the heck lets explore it. This section actually starts at 1950 west, just a smidge west of Redwood.
Quick Details:
Length: About 6/10ths of a mile out and back.
Trail Type: Out and back, connector, loop options.
Difficulty: DR2. It is paved and flat.
Elevation Gain: about ~30 feet or so.
Restroom: No.
Dogs? Dogs are allowed in city parks, leashed.
Other Info: Can be accessed via Trax via the West Jordan City Center Station, but that will add a little extra walking.
To Get Here:
Take Redwood Road to Sugar Factory Road (approximately 8200 South) and head west. Find road side parking near 1950 West.
The Trail:
It starts out pretty unassuming.
Bingham Creek is flowing really good down here. I am not sure why it appears to be dry upstream as we saw the other day.
Where it goes under Sugar Factory Road.
It’s kind of a nice little greenway a little ways off of the road.
It does follow along some backyards.
It is a nice little park though.
There are a couple little rapids which sound nice.
The park.
A little bridge.
It leads to a little playground.
Continuing along.
Maybe not the best views of the creek the entire way, but it is still nice.
Continuing along.
The creek again.
Pretty.
Neighborhood connector.
Where it comes out from underneath 2200 West.
The South Jordan Canal.
The end of the trail at 2200 West Sugar Factory Road.
Sugar Factory Road. You can do a loop back along this road, or even keep heading north and do Veterans Memorial Park. I decided to just head back the way I came.
Park rules. The no golfing rule is oddly specific. I kind of want to hear the story behind that one haha. Or maybe they meant golf carts?
Where the creek crosses the South Jordan Canal.
Upstream is goes through some private areas. I think there is a little bit more along some parks I can do before I reach where I left off upstream.
Downstream.
Back into the little park.
There are even benches and garbage bins.
This is so different than the upper section. This is all green and manicured, the upper sections are more wild fields. Not to mention no water in the creek. I am still trying to figure that out. My leading wild guess (with absolutely no evidence to back it up) is that it is diverted to keep Oquirrh Lake filled and fresh.
Trees.
The creek.
More park.
Sunflowers.

Back to Sugar Factory Road.
Bonus Content:
I noticed a gravel trail following the creek on the other side of the road. I glanced at the map and it looks like it went a little ways down, so I thought I would check it out.
This section is not included in the main stats. It will add about 3/4 of a mile or so.
It’s a little overgrown.
Okay, quite overgrown.
Next to the Trax line, but it looks like we have a sound wall just ahead.
The creek.
It’s going a little further than expected.
Getting a little more wild.
The creek again.
Some rapids.
Continuing along.
I probably should have turned around here, and I recommend anybody following along do so as well haha. But, there was a thin trail through the grass and I can see Redwood! Plus, there is not a 'no trespassing' sign. So, I pushed onward.
Very thin trail… I am crazy.
The property lines seem to be along the creeks bank to the right. So this narrow, narrow strip does not appear to cross into them. Phew.
Okay. I really should have turned back here. But seriously, Redwood is right there!!! It can’t be too bad can it?
Well… obviously I made it, but I sure got scratched up quite a bit. Hind sight, not sure if I would do it again haha.
They took my hat, and tried to take my bag, I reclaimed both but oh boy this kind of sucks.
Sunflower.
Then it spit me out next to a random cabin hiding behind this business. Still no 'no trespassing' signs, but feeling a little intrusive… so I double timed it to the parking lot.
Then just a hop skip and a jump to Redwood.
Crossing the creek and looking upstream.
Downstream, the creek crosses through the middle of a trailer park, then it goes through an industrial section, then some farm land, before joining the Jordan River at the Bingham Creek Confluence.
I am debating weather or not I want to follow it through the trailer park or not. o.O It looks like there is a path through, but like, directly next to peoples back yards.
Some fun clouds as I walk along Redwood heading back to the car.
Well, the official manicured section was super short, but kind of pretty. 7 Squirrels. My random last minute add-on adventure… not so much haha. But hey, it was an adventure!! 3 squirrels.
As for difficulty, The main trail paved and flat, DR2. The add-n adventure was mostly flat and easy but included a short thin bushwhack DR4.
Dogs are allowed, leashed. Please clean up after your furry friends. Also, they probably would not have a good time though the bushwhack section, so maybe don’t submit them to that haha.
