Bingham Creek

Bingham Creek is a paved trail following a creek in West Jordan. The trail features some nice views of the mountains and a small wooded gully in a neighborhood. I hate when is has been snowing and raining like it has, I have a hard time thinking of a trail to do that won’t involve mucking around in the mud. Today was kind of like trying to find a movie on Netflix. I spent an absurd amount of time looking for a trail to do, until it got to the point of losing daylight so I just settled on this, even though we've done it before. o.O

Quick Details:

Length: 2.7 miles out and back.
Trail Type: Out and back, connector.
Difficulty: It is paved, but with a definite incline. DR3.
Elevation Gain: 114 ft.
Restroom: No.
Dogs? Yes, leashed.
Other Info:

To Get Here:

Take 90th south in West Jordan to to 4000 west and head south. About 2/10ths of a mile turn right on Teton Estates Dr. Take the first left onto Colter Bay Cir. Park at the end of the circle.

The Trail:

The start of the trail.

That is odd. The creek is dry up here. I know for a fact it is flowing downstream. I wonder what joins it.

Where the Welby Jacobs Canal crosses the creek.

Shallow gully.

Teton Estates Park.

There is a road crossing at Targhee Dr. It’s not terribly busy, but there is a bit of a blind corner.

It is a little more wooded through this part.

Trail counter. Man I swear I am seeing more and more of these. It just counts how many people have passed by it. In the few we have seen with information, they generally just use the data to determine how many people use certain trails to help them make future state plans. Also, it is not a camera, so don’t worry.

I didn’t notice there was a trail below last time.

Most of the climb is through here.

Looking back at the mountains.

There are a couple random neighborhood connectors.

Road crossing at Skye Dr. This road is a little busier, but there is a signal you can activate.

The little gully, half snowy half not.

Random baseball diamond.

Shallow gully.

Gloomy skies.

The last section in under a tall retaining wall.

I feel like this shortcut is new.

Another trail counter.

There is a tunnel under 4800 W.

Cliff swallow nests.

This is new. It looks like they might be extending the trail out west, but haven’t opened it yet.

Well, until this opens, the trail goes up to 4800 W and then just joins the sidewalk system, so we decided turn around.

Back under 4800 W.

There is a depression to allow Bingham Creek to flow through here as well.

Little bit of water in the creek here.

Around the bend.

The bollards have little locks on them. we wiggled one and it seemed quite flimsy. It does not appear to be much of a deterrent to someone who might really be determined to get a vehicle by them. But I guess, like door locks, it just keeps honest people honest.

Mountain views.

Love the low hanging clouds.

The little gully and mountains.

Bird nests.

Mountains with low clouds again.

I don’t know why this amused me but it did. Rather than build the fence along an easy ridge line, the golf course decided to ensure they got ALL of their property, even this kind of useless area. I mean, they are entitled to all of their property, it just seems like a pain.

The gully again.

I think it is kind of weird the tennis court is alone on the other side of the street. But I guess use the space you have?

Crossing back over Targhee Dr.

Back to Teton Estates Park.

Gophers?

The gully again.

Now we can’t see the mountains at all. Also, that trail to the east is new, it looks like they may have extended it out east a little ways. I'll have to check that out one day.

Well, it is not the most exciting trail, but we still got out and had a nice walk so I am happy. It was not busy either, only ran into a handful of people. My favorite part of this trail is the view of the mountains. But, with the creek dry there isn’t much else to it. 6 out of 10 squirrels today.

As for difficulty, it is paved, but there is a bit of a climb. DR3.

Dogs are allowed, but must remain leashed.
