Mushroom Springs are a group of small springs that are located along The Sentry Trail. That trail is 5.6 miles, and we were not quite up for that much of an adventure but seeing the springs did not appear that far up. They ended up being about a half mile so it was a nice little short adventure.
Quick Details:
Length: 1/2 mile to the spring.
Difficulty: DR3 Super easy, slight incline, wide packed trail.
Elevation Gain: About 200 ft.
Restroom: No. However there is one at nearby Felding Garr Ranch.
Dogs? Yes! Please clean up after your furry friends!
Extra Info: Short jaunt down a dirt road.
To get here head towards the south end of the island past the Felding Garr Ranch. Not too far down the dirt road you will see a parking lot on the left. The trailhead is across the dirt road.
Trailhead sign.
The trail follows an old dirt road that can only be driven on by service people, so no worries of random traffic.
The peaks on the south end.
The Sentry again.
Another cool looking peak.
From the trailhead map it looked like the springs were just above the first major bend in the road so I was guessing they were near those trees up there.
I was right! We have arrived.
Panoramic.
We followed the stream up to the next one.
Yuck.
The 2 lower springs.
And the last one pours into a raised reservoir.
That neat peak to the north.
Back down to the lower one.
One of the best parts of Antelope Island is the sounds of various bird never seem to stop.
The almost full moon.
A herd of buffalo and SLC and the dry lake bed. It’s kind of scary how much dry lake bed there is..
Horses. Not wild of course.
Getting closer to the buffalo.
Well that trail was kind of meh. I bet following it all the way to The Sentry is probably a lot more spectacular. But it was still a nice adventure and I am glad we explored a little bit. And it is a nice short trail to do if you are short on time or have little ones. However, there are definitely better options on the island. Going with 7 out of 10 squirrels.
As for difficulty, well it was pretty easy for the part we did, going with a DR3. I don’t think I would recommend this one on a hot day though as there was not much shelter.
