Battle Creek Falls

Battle Creek Falls is a great short hike up to a very pretty waterfall. We have done this one a couple of times, hoping to see the twin falls that this waterfall is known for. I decided to do this one again knowing we are in runoff season, after doing Rocky Mouth Falls last week. Unfortunately again, no twin falls. Either the winter was again a little too weak, or something has dammed the 2nd waterfall. However, it is still a great trail and is definitely worth doing.

Quick Details:

Length: About .6 miles to the Falls, 1.2 round trip.
Difficulty: DR3 Nice wide well packed path. Somewhat quick elevation gain, but not too bad.
Elevation Gain: About 630 ft.
Restroom: There were some porta potties at the trailhead, but I don’t know if they are always there.
Dogs? Allowed, leashed

To get here head south on i15. Take exit 275 for pleasant grove, and head east. Turn right on state St. turn left on 200 S. Follow that all the way up until the road turns into a dirt parking lot next to Kiwanis Park.

And into the woods! Even with the creek, this is a very dry and dusty canyon, even through the lush part.

Pretty red bells of some sort, I think it is a Penstemon eatonii.

The crossing. This means you are pretty close, and it’s about to get a little more steep.

The path that takes you down to the base of the falls. It looks worse than it really is.

And the falls. Drat! Still a single waterfall. I am starting to feel like I will never see the twin falls!

IMG_5838

Standing underneath though was a great way to cool down on this 95 degree day.

Battle Creek Canyon is the one to the right. Now I need to see what is up the canyon to the left.

I love this trail, I really do, it’s short and easy and has a great end prize. It is definitely worth doing. However we have done it several times now trying to see the twin falls and have not had any luck. I suffered through the heat on this wide open trail with no shelter hoping again to see it, and bupkiss. Blah. I recommend doing it late fall, or early spring, otherwise it is quite a bit much in the open sun! Going with 8 out of 10 squirrels losing 1 for crowds, and 1 for a promise not fulfilled.

As for difficulty, it is a nice wide packed down path. The little trail down to the falls is not as bad as it looks. Going with a DR3.

Dogs are allowed, but should be leashed. Please clean up after your furry friend!
