Dimple Dell: Sunrise Point

Sunrise Point in Dimple Dell, not to be confused with the much more famous Sunrise Point in Bryce Canyon. This Sunrise Point is a pretty overlook looking over Dimple Dell. It is a super short, easy trail and is a fun add on when doing other trails from the Mount Jordan Trailhead. It has been a few years since we have been here so I thought we would do it again.

Quick Details:

Length: About .35 miles out and back.
Trail Type: Out and back.
Difficulty: It is pretty flat and easy going. DR3.
Elevation Gain: About 50 feet.
Restroom: No. Closest one is Granite Park. However, the Bell Canyon Preservation Trailhead is probably the better bet in winter since it is year round.
Dogs? Yes, leashed.
Other Info:

To Get Here:

Take i15 to 90th South heading east for about 6.8 miles. Turn right on Mount Jordan Road. Follow that for about 7/10ths of a mile and the Mount Jordan Trailhead will be on the right. 3015 East Mount Jordan Road.

The parking lot. It is not paved, but wasn’t too yucky with the melting snow and ice today.

They have updated the trailhead kiosk here as well. It is a lot more comprehensive than the old one.

The Trail:

The trail. Lots of signs. We are going to take that thinner trail to the left. The wide one on the right is the Dimple Dell Trail (AKA North Rim Trail from here down to 13th east).

With the old, but refreshed trail signpost.

It starts out as a thin trail on an odd raised bit of land.

Continuing along the high desert plain.

Oof. The inversion has started. Maybe we should have gone to one of our standard “above the funk” trails today. Meh.

Bell Canyon and what I call The Bell Bottom Twins.

Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Continuing along.

The point we are heading towards.

Starting the ridge.

The gully below.

The Sego Lily Trail below that we will be using in a minute.

The ridge.

The point. Huh. They removed the bench, and added a sign. It is a shame about the bench. There is something nice about being able to relax and take in the view.

Flowing Ice: The Power of Glaciers.

Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Bell Canyon. Both carved by glaciers.

Canyons to the south.

Panoramic.

The gully to the south.

There is a trail down from here. I am not sure where it leads, just down to a web of trails. Which look like it may eventually lead to the Sego Lily Trail below, just not in the most direct way it appears.

Dimple Dell Road to the north.

Heading back along the ridge.

Back to the trailhead.

That was a fun little add-on adventure that I am glad we decided to do again. Like I said, it has been a few years. It is super short, and super easy, and has a nice view at the end. 10 squirrels today.

As for difficulty, it is super short, and pretty flat. DR3.

Dogs are allowed, leashed. Please clean up after your furry friends.
