Bateman Pond Park

Bateman Pond Park is a small park located in West Jordan. It features a nice duck pond, and a small creek going through a small wetland area. There is not a lot to it, but it was nice. We decided it was too short though so we added some of the Jordan River Parkway. I had hurt my knee the day before so we were hoping for something a little easier, well, this worked.

Quick Details:

Length: Less than a half mile. .46 to be precise.
Trail Type: Loop with spur.
Difficulty: DR2. the loop is fully paved.
Elevation Gain: About 20 feet.
Restroom: No. There are a couple gas stations on 70th and 13th.
Dogs? Yes, but be advised they are not allowed in the pond.
Other Info:

To Get Here:

Take i15 to the 7200 South exit, head west. Turn right on 13th west. Take the 2nd right Bateman Ponds Way. Go about 2/10ths of a mile  and you will see the pond on the right. We parked at the gate, which could fit about 2 cars as we did not see any no parking or do not block gate signs, but if your nervous you can park on the street.

Note: Google maps will suggest you turn right on Bateman Ln. However this leads to a gated community so ignore google and use Bateman Ponds Way.

The Trail:

Park rules.

There is a gravel path on either side of the pond.

Little fountain.

That’s a pretty nice view.

Ducks.

We startled off a goose.

The view.

The back end of the pond, where the gravel path comes to an end. I am sure you could probably continue around it, but I wasn’t willing to find out with a bum knee.

Heading back.

There is a lot of waterfowl poop, so watch your step.

Nearing the front of the pond.

Then we did the loop around the wetlands below.

The information kiosk doesn’t have any information.

The creek and the wetland.

The little gully.

Some wetland plants. I bet this is prettier in the warmer months.

The North Jordan Canal.

Little bridge over the creek.

Where the creek goes across the canal. I’m not 100% sure, but I am pretty sure it does not empty into the canal, and instead crosses it and come out on the other side. That is what it looks like on google maps and is also generally how they have treated other creeks that the canals cross.

Upstream.

The canal again.

Mountains.

Heading up the other side.

Striking red berries. I bet they taste like burning.

Closer. Google lens is leading me to think this is a Winter king hawthorn.

Nearing the top of the little gully.

Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Bateman Pond again.

The mountains above the gully.

The pond again.

Well, it wasn’t the most thrilling little wetland we have visited but it was kind of cute. It was not very busy though. Meh 6 out of 10 squirrels.

As for difficulty, the main loop is paved, and has a slight incline but not too bad. DR2. DR3 if you add the spur.

Dogs are allowed, and should remain leashed. Also know they are not allowed in the pond.
