Jordan River Parkway: Hunters Woods Loop

For todays Wednesday Walkies With Friends we decided to re-attempt the loop we had planned to do last time. We started in Arrowhead Park, wandered over to Little Confluence Trailhead and walked along the river crossed over to Germania Park, and walked back to Arrowhead Park. It is quite a lovely loop and I was happy we completed it.

Quick Details:

Length: 1,8 Mile loop.
Trail Type: Loop, out and back, figure 8 or connector.
Difficulty: DR3. Half of it is paved/board walk the other half is fairly flat hard parked dirt.
Elevation Gain: About 60 feet.
Restroom: Yes at Arrowhead Park.
Dogs? Yes, leashed.
Other Info: Cities: Murray. Mile Markers 29

To Get Here:

If coming from the north, take i15 to 4500 S, go west. Turn left on 500 west. Take that to Murray/Taylorsville rd (4800 s) hang right, then immediately left.

If coming from the south, take the 5300 S exit. Go west, turn right on Murray Blvd. Turn left on Murray/Taylorsville rd (4800 s), then immediately left.

The Trail:

Note: My new camera is in the shop (which I am just thrilled about) so I am using a much older camera today.

I love these cacti flowers.

Oh neat there is a tiny patch of yellow ones.

As I mentioned last time, there is a lovely little garden area at the Little Confluence Trailhead.

Some really pretty irises.

Primrose.

Mountains.

More irises.

Pretty woods.

I believe this was purposely cut into a chair. I do wonder if they meant for it to resemble a toilet.

Duck and duckling.

More ducks.

More of the woods.

Random structure.

The river.

The ‘wall of birds’. This high river bank is an important nesting area for bank swallows and king fishers.

More ducks.

Riverbend.

Another duck.

Indian blanket. I saw some of these on my way out to Oregon once or twice.

Looking back at the bridge we crossed over the river. Now we will be in Germania Park for a little bit.

Another little citizen science station. I totally love these.

The river.

The sunset is making the mountains pink.

If this pond is named, I can’t seem to find it.

Duckies.

It’s getting a little dark to be taking pictures, so it is a little blurry. But I am so pleased to see this sign on our waterways. It reads:

Thank You
For not feeding us bread

Bread makes us ill and does not contain the
right nutrition or calories that we need to keep
us warm in winter

Rotting bread
pollutes our water
and causes nasty
surface algae, which
kills our fish and
gives us diseases
it also makes
our water smell

We do like:
Cut seedless grapes
cooked rice, bird seed, peas
corn, oats and chopped lettuce.

Mile marker 29.

Back to the Little Cottonwood Confluence. It seemed a bit higher and faster today than it was last week.

That was a lovely little stroll, with some of my favorite people. It was easy going, pretty wild for the most part and offered great views and sights. The wildflowers are great, as well as the planted garden at the beginning. It was not terribly busy today either. 8 out of 10 squirrels.

As for difficulty, it was mostly fairly flat. Half of it was paved/board walked and the other half was hard packed dirt. DR3.

Dogs area allowed, leashed. Please clean up after your furry friend.
